Iran, China, and Russia have established a strong relationship in recent years, particularly in the areas of trade and security cooperation.
China is Iran’s largest trading partner, and Iran has become a key participant in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which aims to connect Asia, Europe, and Africa through infrastructure development and economic cooperation. Iran’s participation in the BRI has led to increased investment from China in Iran’s infrastructure, energy, and manufacturing sectors.
Russia and Iran have also formed close ties, particularly in the area of defense cooperation. In recent years, the three countries have also come together to oppose U.S. sanctions against Iran. In 2020, China and Russia vetoed a U.S.-sponsored resolution at the United Nations Security Council that would have extended an arms embargo on Iran.
